Yesterday in the Dutch town of Vlissingen the Belgian bodybuilding championships were to be held with a sellout crowd of 300 spectators. However while the 20 contestants were warming up back-stage the Belgian anti-doping authority showed up. The chief tester gave a list of names, 12 in all, of participents who he would like to test. When the contestants found out they were to be tested they all fled the scene and the whole competition had to be cancelled. Just shows you it,s not only cycling that has it,s problems.

A couple of lads I used to work with do all-natural body building and competed at national level. In normal clothes they just look like fit lads but on stage they were ripped. However there is a marked difference between them and ones who are on the juice...

I really didnt think that the 'all out' body builders would have a doping control ? Their physiques are just so outrageously OTT that theres no way they could be natural.

cougie, they still take illegal drugs and can probably be done for it? The anti doping authority is nothing to do with the bodybuilding competition (obviously).

I never quite get that. Surely by the virtue that body builders are not entering the 'All Natural' events indicates they are doping?!

It's a bit like having a 'Clean' cycling race as opposed to a normal one?!

I think this too, it wasnt a cheating at your sport thing, its possession of illegal substances. Possession here isnt illegal (I BELIEVE) but supply is. Wasnt creatine banned in France?

An interesting(to say the least) documentary / video is "The Man whose Arms Exploded".
Story of a bodybuilder who went a bit to far. It's an hour long thing that has been shown,
on TV, here in the States, more than a few times. There are also clips on the Internet.
    Really strange story.

I knew a 'roid-head'- massive; had to rid his Ford fiesta of all the plastic interior: dash board gear box etc Always slurping those 'protein shakes' :D

Dont' see him anymore but I'm told that him and his 'roid-head' buddies are always to be found competing on the Sonic Blastman style punchbag game recently installed in the local pub!! Apparently the punch-bag entrepreneur is making quite a killing.
    Where\'s me jumper?

Not only do they indicate they are doping, if you weren't taking copious amounts of steroids for many years, you would never be able to compete at any serious level. That's a fact.

That's why they have clean competitions.

What can you say? All through the thing I sort of kept saying that "I can admire a good looking pair of arms"(wannabe bodybuilder myself in my teenage years) but his were,
and I can't even think of a word to describe them. Awful, I guess. His arms looked as though they had a couple of huge tumors growing on then.

It's the same in many top level cycling comps, what's the name of that group of "all natural" cyclists who do the TDF every year? They basically ride it fuelled by bananas and ordinary food and at the end (They finish it days after the rest of the group) they literally need serious medical attention. Thing is there are a lot of legal supplements that athletes take - cortisone for example, which is a legal steroid taken by most athletes.

I knew a guy.. or rather he was an aquaintance of my Brother's... who was into proper roids and body building. Would often see him around the gyms when I used to use the free weights.

He's in a wheel chair now. It really screwed his body up. And I know there are roid users who go "..ah well it was his fault, he took too much..." but thats just denial. He didnt take that much and now his heart is knackered, he cant have kids and his skin is falling off like severe eczema. :?

I dont know why anyone would do it myself.Glory is fleeting.
