Comedy clipless into something more serious

Went out in the rain on my Tricross Single and managed to have a clipless moment in the woods right next to a big patch of stinging nettles, ouch. MTFU'd and got over it, the rain would cool my legs and help me forget about the large sting patches on both legs.

Got within a mile of home and came off 2nd best to a square metal bollard and gravity, can remember 2 fellow cyclists stopping and asking if I was OK, in a way but after getting home and changed thought it was best to visit A&E, they were more concerned about my blood sugar levels as this may ahve been the cause of the accident. Anyhow after 2 hours I had to go home to Dads place and spend the night with him cause of the head injury. Nettle rash has cleared up but the cuts and grazes on legs and face are still evident.

The worse was to come when I got home, I knew the front wheel needed a tweak of the spokes and the saddle needed re-tightening but when trueing the wheel the PF had added insult to injury, this could be a thorn issue as it was OK when I rode the 20 mins home.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I had a clipless moment into a patch of nettles - I landed in a huge patch and had so many stings I was light-headed for a while. I did find cycling cooled down the feeling and by the time I got home I felt fine.

My wife freaked when she saw me as I looked like I'd been shot with a blunderbuss :D

edit - sorry meant to add: So you have my cmplete sympathy!!

    Nasty!

My gf was majestically toppled sideways into nettles. Not because she had clipless pedals or anything. It just happened.

ADDS: Btw - clipless moments - is it because people FORGET to unclip, or because the pedals WONT unclip?! Just put double sided pedals on my bike, and that is my biggest worry!

Mine was a remembering to unclip, but on the left side - then overbalancing over to the right and then not having the time to overcome instinct (just lifting the foot off) and clip that one out too..!

In my case it has been distraction. Thinking of something else, doing something else, talking, simple absence of mind. It is not a natural movement and whilst practice will make master, I feel that you may not rely on total exemption from "a moment". :(

Excellent! Just myself to blame if it happens then...

Clipless to work - it was great! After a few starter wobbles and trouble getting the angle right they worked a charm. Definately faster. I can see why the fancier shoes have so many velcro straps and all - tighter shoes are a must.

Last week I cycled to choir on the fixie - a nice gentle safe short route to help me get used to the bike. On the way back I almost went bum over boob when a fox ran out in front of me.

Yesterday, I made the same journey, and on the way back the same bloody fox was in the middle of the road! In exactly the same spot! At least this time I could see it and scare it off, but come on! Stop testing me!
