Fortunately I had nearly finished my ride and was only a couple of miles from home. I'm unable to shift up the cassette, the lever doesn't have any tension on it, but it shifts down fine? Something come astray in the shifter perhaps? They're deore btw

Doesn't seem to be, surely it wouldn't change in either direction?

    but you say
I'm unable to shift up the cassette, the lever doesn't have any tension on it, but it shifts down fine

how does it go down if you can go up?

disconnect the mech,Or find another way to put tension on the cable and see what happens.

yes the shifter may be bust but work through the parts and see.

I see what you mean, I was mid block when it happened hence being able to go down. I'll have a fiddle and see what's what

There was no problem with the cable, and I changed inners and outers just the other week. So I took the plate off the bottom of the shifter and bingo, a little piece of metal dropped out. I couldn't see where it should be, but its snapped off something so new shifter time. The bikes not a year old yet, would the shifter be under warranty?
