I missed the incident but I heard the commentators on Eurosport say something about a punctured lung, broken leg and amongst other injuries some form of brain/head injury. Doesn't sound good.

Looking at that photo, it is pretty difficult to understand how he went over the barriers.

"His condition is serious, our team doctor said he fractured his leg, knee and has a head trauma," said a Rabobank official of Pedro Horrillo.

The first medical bulletin arrived a short time later the 17,30: "Horrillo is in coma and the prognosis is reserved - explained the medical director Claudio Sileo -". The varied Tac implored the danger of injuries to the brain, to the vital organs and to the spine, but the situation remains serious because of some costal breaks, of a pneumotorace (ready drained), of the exposed break of the femur, of the rotula and of some vertebras. In evening they will come completed the assessments, that will follow the transfer in the department of resuscitation.

No stage results available, as yet, either.

Gazzetta says his vital organs are ok, but still classifies his situation as grave :(

The picture of his bike on CN looks untouched, just got the chain off.

Those pictures are horrific. When Pereiro crashed last year my osteopath said that the tress and bushes helped to break his fall so the damage wasn't so bad. So although this looks horrific maybe not so bad as it could have been. If you see what I mean!
What about a thumbs up to the rescue teams as well? What brave people they are.

We are happy to start off our report today with some good news. Rabobank reports that Pedro Horrillo has come out of his induced coma, can be spoken to, and has moved his arms and legs. His wife will be arrving sometime today. He is still in very serious condition, though, and we send him all our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
