Shoe Covers

When people talk about shoe covers for TT's and you see the pics they look like ordinary overshoes for the wet/cold. Are they the same thing? I'm guessing they are probably a lighter version of an overshoe as they aren't concerned with being either insulated or wet protected.

Some use the speial TT thin ones however, according to some wind tunnel testing these are supposed to be the bestest (can't remember my source) -

Cool - something that is meant to be the best and is cheaper than my overshoes cost me. That must be a first for cycling apparel 0 -
Heh heh. I'm racking my brains trying to think where I heard it, some top amateur did a load of testing at a college in the US. He found some supposed made for TTing ones actually increased drag! He wouldn't name names but said these were the best.0

With my inflexible hamstrings and more upright position until I get sorted I need all the help I can get though not planning on doing a tt before the middle of July as I've other things I want to try first. Was just reading Jeff's blog and the shoe covers got a mention which just put the question back in my mind that had been hanging around in the back of my head for quite a while.0 -

Now those seconds ones there are definitely more the price I was expecting to see (let's call it the aerodynamic premium ). I doubt it really is anything to do with the quality of the materials used or the cost of making them. 0 -
