speed king i would hope your bike weighed less than 20kg as that equates to 44.1 lbs d/h bike territory, 10kg is respectable for the o/p at 22.05lb for what looks like a standard s/works, not sure about the rear guard though on such a nice bike.
    who cares?

Totally agree that it doesn't look right, the reason for it was winter commute to work but seeing as summer is here and I have a Respro Hump cover I can take it off again.

As for being a standard S-Works, you were never able to buy that bike as a complete build. I bought the frame and parts separate and built it up myself with a little help from lbs.

Bump due to new wheel set, no longer sporting a rear mud guard as I have discovered waterproof shorts.
  • Quite nice man. Just find it hard to believe you use that as a commuter! Such a nice frame, it's bound to nicked by a scrote.

It should be in the 11-12kg range.. My M5 2007 weight 10.1kg without tyres and tubes

After nearly 6 years of good use I've changed from Dual Control to some shiny new XT M785 Disc brakes and XT M770 shifters. Took it to the lbs to get the brake hoses shortened as I didn't want to chance screwing it up. The ride home was fun, getting used to the shifters is going to take a while.

Get the optical displays off the shift levers - it'll save you several grams and I'm pretty sure no one's ever used them on a moving bike!

No point removing them for the sake of it unless you actually object to them.

Looks good. Red grips clash IMO, and the Crud Catcher still needs to go!

For the sake of it? There must be ten whole grams there! Ten grams!!!!

Fair point, I just irrationally object to them. Particularly on higher-level levers like XT. One of those things I can't explain

Thanks for the comments, red grips will probably be due a change end of the year, crud catcher is staying as are the optical displays, next change will be the front and rear mechs unless the cassette and chain need doing sooner.

First ride today with the new brakes/shifters was going well until I badly punctured on what I think was a bird skeleton, fortunately I had a spare tube and a CO2 cartridge as I was a good 7 miles from home. Thanks to MerlinCycles who made sure a new tyre was dispatched today so I should be back riding tomorrow. :D

New XT M785 Trail SPDs as they were on offer at Merlin.

They look great and are over 150 grams lighter than the DX pedals I had on previously.

Mine weighed 20g or so.And the other bigger advanatge is that you can fine tune your lever position or even run your brake levers inboard,of your gear shifters.

I have 2 bikes one with dcl and rapid rise and one with a conventional set up.I still find the dcl set up more intuitive!

During the first couple of weeks I kept down changing by accident but now I'm used to it, the shifting is definitely smoother than the dcl and I really like the 2 way release system, also the new XT brakes are really good.
