Steel or aluminium? It cost about £30.00.

Steel, but with a nicer shiny chromey finish than the comparatively-priced Shimano cassettes, a few grammes lighter too.

I'm not sure how long an aluminium cassette would last - chainrings yes, but not a cassette.

American Classic do them, but market them as 'raceday cassettes', so I'm assuming they're light but last 5 minutes flat and no longer.

High-end Dura Ace cassettes get titanium for the bigger cogs but the smaller ones are still steel.
  • Actually, I think it's cheese - certainly in my experience!
