OK so I had my Kharma weighed (with pedals and new gel flow seat). The guy told me she's 20lbs exact. Is that light? Feels light. What weight are your bikes?

No idea. Light though, the maxima anyway. I should weigh it really. Bowery is really pretty damn heavy.

Sorry no that it isn't light. :P

    Have a look here:

    http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum ... 2f34b00718

My is Focus Cayo is 16.3lb and the C'dale capo 18.4lb.

Need to get the Cayo nearer to 15lb. Need to throw some more cash at it.

My two steel road bikes, with pedals/computer etc are 9kg's, which isn't bad for steel - just short of 20lbs.

Knock off 400grms for the pedals...

15.8 lbs for my fixie (about 7kg) - 18.1lbs for the Roadie (yes, I was surprised at 8 kg myself!)

I think some alloy frames can be as light as carbon- particularly scandium frames.

    +1 for the scandium.

I'm coming from mtb perspective so 20lbs inc pedals sounds light to me! But apparently not

Yeah - my MTB weighs in at 9.8kg.....Not bad for an early Merlin (has full XT and Ritchey pro kit + Reba's - hence lack of weight!)

The Viner is 17lbs bang on. Haven't dared weigh the Ridgeback, it would probably break the scales. I reckon at least 35lbs! Other road bike is probably around 22lbs now its got my training wheels back on it.

6.8kg, or a heavy fart under 15lbs, is the target weight. That's the UCI weight limit.

Bike 1 came in around 7.15 kg. Not bad, considering there's nothing particularly tricked out in that build. Bike 2 is probably 200g or so lighter; wheels and frame make the difference.

According to my research the Maxima weighs in at about 14lb...

This seems too light, but is based on finding out the weight of all the components and adding on half a pound for the seatpost which I didn't know the name of and a pound for error, but there's still some margin for error, definitely...

    I'll weigh it soon, promise!

However, I weigh rather a lot...

EDIT: huh, well it's definitely lighter than Greg's, so maybe I'm not far off, whether or not it's a pound lighter....

fear not DDD, it's the quality of the rider not the weight that matters

How do you weigh a bike? Do you need special scales?

Weigh yourself, pick up bike while still on scales, subtract your weight from your and the bike's combined weight...

    I'm sure that isn't true.

All that this weighing stuff makes me think of is a game of Top Trumps, but then I am not a big spender on bicycles - I have a heavy old tourer, like your grandad. Why? Because I am harder than you lot, and my dad could have your dad in a fight.

Besides, isn't the only truly worthwhile weight measurement the one that includes bike AND rider?

Best way is with a hanging digital scale (as you would use to weigh a fish you'd just caught).

Second best way* is to weigh each bit using digital scales as you build it. Write the weights down and tot them up.

*Only a really sad git would do that. <cough cough>

    Heresy.

It's far easier to lose weight from the bike than the rider.

    The latter requires exercise. Ekkkk!

Take it round the LBS - they will have proper scales. And be dead jealous.

My Scott weighs in at 22lbs, while the Gary Fisher is about 27.5lbs! I like to train on the heavy bike though, which makes me super quick on the Scott! :D

    Il Principe weighs in at:

18lbs with the FFWD deep rims (8.2kg)
    17lbs with the racing 0's (7.7Kg)

Reckon I could knock a lot off that if I really wanted (add Record etc), but given I weigh 75kg I'd really be better off eating fewer pies and drinking less beer!
