overshoes?

my feet got well and truly soaked on my commute home today.

I'm normally on my road bike with SPD-SLs and some shimano road shoes (that have a hole on the sole in front of the cleat, undeneath the toes??).

Are overshoes a bit of a faff? This being my (mostly rural) commute my feet need to pop in and out fairly often.

oh the gallons of water hitting my leg and trickling down into the sock...

Recommendations please? I've just bought a bike of ebay 'cos I thought it was cheap and Mrs Si is going to go mad when she finds out. So nothing too pricey...

I find the Endura Neoprenes excellent, and only 20 quid too :o

Prendas Windtex `Stretch` Overshoes £25 (much cheaper than the Gore equivalent) and fab. Anything neoprene just makes your feet sweat.,,,

endura stealth bib tights/longs with Pro Tarmac NPU Neoprene Overshoes would help drain water away from feet, nicely insulated except just above the overshoe where the bib tights/longs would overlap, & dont expect to be spinning really fast as they are a bit restrictive but thats what you get with fully waterproof bib tights/longs. even after a hilly 19mile test ride in the rain my legs were dry.

I've got the Pro Tarmac H20 road overshoes. My commute is only 5 miles so not sure what are like for long distance or intense rides, but they keep my feet warm and dry through all weathers. They don't look like welly boots as much as the Endura ones either. They are neoprene but i haven't found that to be a problem.
    About £25.

Overshoes don't make clipping in any harder, they have a big hole in the bottom. I have acouple of different types, for really wet days (or very cold days) I use Pro Tarmac NPU Neoprene ones and on just chilly days (or light rain, damp road surface) I use Lusso Max Repels. Well worth getting at least one set, they don't stop always stop your feet getting wet (water can get in through the soles or down through the ankle cuff) but they keep your feet warm still (neoprene especially)

The endura neoprones make it look like you've just dipped both feet in a big bowl of tar! Very warm, very dry. Reasonably cheap too.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

I used the Pro Tarmac NPU ones all winter (a morning shift meant the 18.5 miles was at 4.30am, rather parky!) and I found them brilliant...at 4am

I bought some sidi overshoes this winter, what an awesome investment. I won't blather on about them here, if you're interested you can read my review here...

But basically, they are great overshoes, especially for wet weather.

    Hope that helps.
