2008 Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu Xenon
Sigma Computer
Giro Monza Helmet
Nike shoes
Spare tyres
All for the price of £280
Just took it out for a blast around the block, which is 1 mile, and wow, this is awesome, can't wait to get it setup! Only problem is the carbon post seems to have bonded to the alu frame, any hints for getting it loose?

I had this, where the carbon wrap round the ally seat post had attached itself to the inside of the frame whilst still being attached to the seat post. The post eventually came out leaving a nice carbon cylinder behind, which came out separately with much less effort.
It was a bugger to get out, took three of us in the end, two holding the frame and one on the moleys, along with liberal squirts of GT85 lube down the frame & up it via the bottle holder threads. If anyone's ever in this position, it might help to know that the seat clamp fits perfectly in the drain slots at the end of our driveway so gives infinite grip - you can't turn the road with an inverted bike frame. What you can do though is twist the seat clamp off the seat post. Unlucky, as I recall mumbling to myself through the sweat & tears.
See also my similar thread. My post at 6:09 on March 30th describes my final solution.

Haha excellent, well my dad's gonna give it a go and see what he manages.
Just had to drop £50 on a new rear mech and chain, was riding home, last 1/2 mile and all of a sudden the rear end locked up, the chain is twisted through 90º and the rear mech is bent to pieces. What a joke0 -
I'm not very mechanical, but that sound very bad mate. I've heard of chains snapping, and stuff, but twisting through 90 degrees?
I don't know if you know the bloke you brought if off, but if the seatpost is stuck and now this, it suggests that he didn't look after it to well. It therefore might be worth spending a bit more and getting a service done by a bike mate or similar, even if that means another £50 at the LBS. Get it set up right from word go, and hopefully this mishap will be just one of those things!
Don't be to disheartened, sounds like the chain, and rear mech probbably needed changing anyway? Reading how much you paid, and what you got, & even spending the extra, IMO I think you still got a good deal."I spend my petrol money on Bikes, Beer, Pizza, and Donuts "

Yeah it's a bit of a pain in the arse. I work at a bike shop and I went over it and everything and it looked alright to me, I mean I didn't give it a thorough inspection with a magnifying glass but I think it was just bad luck really. I was planning on taking it out this weekend and giving it some miles but instead I might just strip it down, do some cleaning and lubricating and get it set up nicely!
My dad's never seen anything like it in 20+ years of cycling I mean the only thing I can think of is that something got caught up in the chain some how and cause it to twist, but hey that's life. Just a shame because I wanted to spend the £70 I had put by spare on clothing, but I'll just have to dip into my savings a bit.
Managed to get the seat post out though brute force, my dad pulling and twisting and putting wd40 in there every minute or so and me holding the bike down and we had it out in about half an hour. Seems the graphics which were applied to the post had stuck to the inside of the tube, and when we were pulling it out, we were pulling up all the glue, because when we got it out, the carbon tube that we had pulled out had a much different feel to it, and there was a dusty powdery residue left behind on the inside of the seat tube, but it's been cleaned out and all is good now.
I think I might look for some new bars shortly, these are just standards and they don't feel too comfy might look around for some decent value anatomicals.0 -
That seatpost thing has got me worried. I got my first road bike last year and it has an ally frame with a carbon wrap seatpost. Is there anything that I can do to avoid this happening?0
