It's not a light bike. If it has the smaller chainring up front and an MTB type cassette, say up to a 32T or 34T then you can do uphills. You may need to stand up on the pedals. You may also find the front wheel lifting on steep uphills.

It`s prob a silly question, but can you change the gearing on the bike and add a front mech to give the bike say 18 gears

    exscuse the tech terms

  • I was in a shop this morning looking at one of these, me and my buddy were commenting on how small the cockpit looked on a large frame, don't know if that helps at all. Sadly I didn't ride it.

rong236, did you get it then?

My frame's an older 2003  which can be fitted with an E-type front mech to allow the use of a 2nd smaller chainring (which is what I did at first). You could use 3 chainrings if you wanted but that would be daft. If the frame you're looking at will accept a front mech then you have the option of more chainrings.

Oh yeah, I'm 5'6" and have a small size frame which feels fine for me. I didn't comment on the large size fitting you or not because you'll have to try it yourself to find out. It's a personal feel sort of thing.

If you get the bike 2nd hand then try to get the original receipt as well 'cos all Specialized frames have a lifetime warranty. If you break it get a much discounted Demo8 in the right size :D

Sorry if that last bit of advice came a bit late.
