Gatwick to La Marmotte

I'm trying to figure out the best way of getting to La Marmotte.
I've come up with a couple of options and was after some feedback on both.
Option 1.
Eurostar GBP159 St Pancras to Grenoble via Paris (change stations in Paris from Gare Du Nord to Gare Du Lyon) Transfer from Grenoble to Alpe D'Huez by someone who will already have a car at ADH. Never done Eurostar or TGV before so looking forward to that.
Option 2.
Easyjet Gatwick to Geneva GBP156.40 including bike and extra baggae allowance, I'd have to figure out how to get from Geneva to ADH. Not sure if I trust Easyjet to get my bike there.
Option 1 doesn't take into account the Gatwick Express to Victoria or tube to St Pancras which would probably be about 25 quid total. But would take longer than flying.
Option 2 - Don't know how much it would cost or how to get from Geneva to ADH and there's a chance the bike won't make the flight, expecially if it's full with other bikes.
I'm flying into Gatwick and need to then tag on another flight from Gatwick to Guernsey so other airports are not really an option.
Any opinions?

Is the fear of losing your bike a rational one, ie. is it based on experience? I would have thought they are as reliable as anyone else, after all it's the baggage handlers that do the damage and they are not airline specific. As to not getting there because of the flights being full of other bikes, I would have thought Easyjet (and Rynair) have an advantage in this respect over the major airlines like British Airways, as you actually book your bike on the flight when you book your ticket. They allocate a number of bikes to each flight and once they've sold the allocation, that's it.
One possible way of getting from Geneva to the Alp would be with some of the small tour operators that are running Marmotte trips. They may be able to offer you a transfer, not sure what it would cost though.0 -
Yes, bike hasn't arrived on a couple of occaisions when I have travelled to Europe, although that was down to the Local Airlines and not the Transatlantic or European airlines.
I hadn't considered the tour operators, I'll have a look and see what's around. The main concern was the actual trasnfer from Geneva. Grenoble falls into place quite easily but the thought of travelling accross London and then accross Paris with the Bike box and baggage is what's putting me off the Train.0 -
Never had a problem with Easyjet myself.
As for getting to ADH,could you not hire a car from the airport.
To be honest,if you set off EARLY in the morning, you'd get to the alps late evening by carso many cols,so little time!0
