Hi, i'm ridding a Trek 3900 (intend to upgrade as soon as poss!!) and the chain is skipping! also i have issues with getting into a certain gear (won't change up to it but will down). i don't really want to spend cash on getting it tuned so wondered if anyone has any tips on how i can fix the issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

J

    Chain skipping:
    Stiff links in chain.
    Worn chain or cassette/chainrings.
Could also just be down to gear selection problems.

    Not changing gear.
    Limit screws not set correctly.
    Gear cables not running smoothly.
    Dérailleur not moving smoothly.

Clean throughly and lube everything is the first place to start.

Have a look around here also. Handy link. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/workshops

Some good maintenance guides are here also: http://www.parktool.com/
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
