Giant xtc team rear suspension play

Hi
Ive got an old Giant xtc team late 90's, the rear suspension linkage's as quite worn and the rear wheel had a lot of play. the linkages that houses the bushes are worn so replacing the bushes didnt help. I also had some alluminium shims made which helped but its not quite right and the play will return through wear.
Im currently looking at putting bearings in but they are expensive and the ID of the closest sized bearing means I have to down size the bolt and threaded hole in the linkage which is proving to be a hassle
Any ideas?
Thanks
Matt
