looking at getting some new brakes, looking to spend around £300 for front, rear, mounts rotors etc.

at the moment i'm looking at the Hope tech X2s, wondered if anyone had used these, or had any other recommendations.

will be for XC and trail centre riding, thanks!

Not sure about the X2's but if they are running a similar setup to the Mono Minis but with the updated master cylinder and so on I would be a bit wary. I had the Mono Mini Pros on a Carbon HT I built and they were woefully underpowered. Very light but I had little confidence in them.

The x2s may of course be (and probably are) very different but if you can get out and ride a bike with them on take the opportunity.

If you can stretch a little further I have heard several good things about these - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38266

Another vote for the Elixirs' from Merlin

I've just replaced some Hope C2's with them and found them to be superb.

Stop very well and have great modulatiion.

    Super cheap too :)

so the general consensus is the X2s are pretty rubbish, the new tech ones yeah?

when you guys say the Elixirs do you have the CRs?

Aren't the 'The one' aimed at downhill?

I got the standard Elixirs as abve.

Saved nearly £100 over the carbons for not much performance or weight difference.

    Avid Juicy 5.

Have these on my Enduro and they certainly have stopping power.

i wouldnt recommend avid. mine have needed nearly constant maintainence and royally piss me off sometime. am looking at some M4's or XT's atm.

agreed, minis are hugely underpowered, but for XC you dont really need huge amounts of stopping power. they stop me okish, although to be fair i am quite light.
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

    the Formula K24s.

You do not need the Ones as earlier suggested.

I prefer the look of the carbons, and they offer the bite point adjustment too.

I think code's are going to be overkill for my style of riding, and i've heard loads of bad reviews about the juicys, but could be tempted by the elixirs. i think what i'm going to do is have (another) bash at sorting my current brakes (which are playing up due to neglect on my part) and ten look at ordering monday.

I thought I needed bite point adjustment, but I bought the standard as couldn't stretch to the cr's - and to be honest it's not necessary, the bite point is spot on and it hasn't varied once in months.
