Creaking Truvativ crankset

Ok, I have searched on here & read the posts about clicking/creaking noises & what to look out for so please don't shoot me down . . . yet!
I have a clicking noise coming from the drivetrain area when I pull away or really push hard on the pedals i.e. going up hills/pulling away. I have a truvativ firex crankset
I have so far changed the pedals for new ones & used anti-seize grease on the threads, changed the chain, stripped, cleaned & re-greased & re-fitted the cranks & the chainrings.
I couldn't do anything with the bottom bracket, as my bb tool would not move the cups, so I assume they must be pretty tight.
The noise is still there though. Is this an excuse to replace my drivetrain/bottom bracket to a Shimano XT one?
Or am I missing something else? Are these truvativ cranksets & bottom brackets poor?

the fireX has many different fittings so a bit more info is needed.
but is it the crankset or something else. Looked in the FAQs?

OK, I have checked those things except the bottom bracket, rear cogs & derailler pulley wheels.
I haven't checked the housing end caps, frame, saddle, headset, stem or handlebars, as the bike is less than a year old & the clicking only happens when you are really forcing teh pedals. So wouldnt this rule all these out, as if it was one of those then teh clicking would happen all the time wouldnt it? :?/

I have exactly the same issue and know it's the bottom bracket bearings. If I grab a crank arm I can wiggle it toward the bike frame backwards and forwards. I tried tightening the bearings but no luck, fecked. They've only lasted 2 years. They've continued to creak away for the last 100 miles or so though!Orange Clockwork 2007

I had a similar problem with my square taper bb. I think once they loosen a little bit then they start to wear away the lovely square taper bit and round it off. So even when you go to tighten it up, its still loose as you've lost the square edges.
I wanted to upgrade to something better but its just my spare run around bike, so just went for the cheapest replacement again.0
