But then the heat treatment on mine can give higher tensile strength (what's referred to as high modulus)

Which in turn can make them brittle and prone to snap, why do you think you don't see many ti handlebars, bar the price of course. ;)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I went for the OS carbon Easton Monkeylite SL bars.
Easton are still the daddies in the carbon bar market, and I think these are still the daddy XC Eastons!.. 8)

Nope, they did them, then found their hardness made them brittle so to make them stronger they had to up the weight putting them in line or even heavier than alloy bars so making it pointless.

They would be made if there was a viable market for them, i mean you can get ti chains that are £300.

If that's the case though it seems odd there aren't any light weight titanium bars. Carbon is similarly expensive to produce, yet Ritchey, Easton, Race Face, Truvativ, Answer, Sunline etc all have light models.

    Lightweight titanium bars...

Nuke Proof Ti bars are about 40g lighter than a cheap set of aluminium EA70 Monkeybars. I bet a lot of those sales are for the novelty as well.

Nike Proof's ti bars aren't competitors for the Eastons though, they're designed for strength- they're still very light for what they are. And incredibly ugly  Titec's 118 is £85 and 118 grams, though that's a horrible narrow XC bar, but there's your Easton competitor.

The main reason we don't see more ti bars is just that it's a sod to work with, I think.

    But anyway, massive derail ;)
