This evening I tried to install my Speedplay Zero cleats and pedals. I was shocked at how hard they are to engage onto the pedals. Is this the norm?
I tried lubing them up with some Finish Line Dry Teflon which did help slightly but cant see this lasting long.
Any suggestions??

Sounds like you've overtightened the screws on the the cleats. Try loosening them slightly and see how how get on. If I remember rightly you tighten them until you hit slight resistance then tighten 1/4 of a turn further. I've done this with mine and never had the cleats move accidentally.0

I agree with ward29 - try backing off the screws a quarter-turn

I did try that but still found them very hard to get in.0

ive had the same problem, tho strange enough after several months of use the screws holding the black plastic bit to the sole had come loose, only one shoe. anyways i think they take a long time to break in. as i found they were quite stiff to start with but after (maybe 3-5 months) awhile it was easier to engage.0

I spent a quarter of an hour with mine just clipping in and unclipping. It was initially very tough but gradually got easier, and now I have no problems at all.
It's worth keeping the metal clip lubricated with a bit of grease, otherwise they get stiff again. This can cause issues on clubruns, but can be cured with a bit of butter bought at the cakestop...0 -
First time I tried speedplays I found them hard to clip in too, but I put it down to not getting them quite aligned. I'd spend an age trying to get either in. But pretty soon it became a doddle. I do keep them lubricated, and strip them down every now and again - especially if I have to go walkabout off of the bike in them (just bought some coffee cup caps for them)

It looks like i have managed to loosen them up a little. I can now engage my right foot quite easy. My left foot is still a pain but as i use unclip my right foot when i stop i can live with that.0
