Hi
At 16.5 stones am I too heavy for a full carbon bike? Not looking at any particular brand at the minute, but is there a general rule? Any advice grately appreciated.
Cheers

I am not an expert but there must be a carbon bike out there for you.Ask someoe for a good bike shop, they should give you a straight answer.0

Noidea, I am 15 1/2 stone and am aiming to get a new Carbon framed bike when I hit 14 stone. Got to have something to aim for. I would also check with the LBS for details of a strong frame. Prob be expensive as I would say that the cheaper ones would be lets say not as strong as the more expencive ones so if you want one and can afford it go for it!!!!!0

I'm 16.5 stone and ride a Boardman Team Carbon. no probs with flex or worry about strength of frame for me. And i dont ride on silky smooth tarmac, the roads round here can be pretty broken up.
Not heard a single creak or complaint from the frame,

Not too big for a carbon bike. Just make sure you get strong wheels.
And lose weight fatty!
(Previously over 18 stone myself, Now 13 stone and dropping).0 -
I don't think you need to worry, as far as I'm aware carbon bikes (or any bike for that matter) doesn't come with a particular weight limit. I suppose the wheels may may be something to worry about if you were another few stone heavier and rolled over some large potholes...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Yeh they're dead strong.
But for christs sake, don't get any water on it!Shazam !!0 -
Scott CR1 - totally bombproof. Light and sexy too. Hang the kyseriums on the garage wall get some cheapish 36 spoke open pro/105's built and use them until you hit the 15 stone mark. Im still racing one of my CR1's which lugged me around when i was 20 stone!! (now 15 stone 8lb) :?0

They are very strong there was a video that was on here where they had a carbon stem and loaded it with more force than any human can dish out and it was fine. I will ha[/size]ve a look
Oh and if you do get water on it...well it will shrink
This rider was 12 stone, it was his first ride, he rode over a stone chip -

NapD - do you have something against carbon frames? Am sure I've seen a few replies from you with similar photo's as above? I'm a big pie eater (14st 8lbs) and am sure you know am still waiting for the 'carbon' ribble to arrive!!"I spend my petrol money on Bikes, Beer, Pizza, and Donuts "

Isnt that an alu scott speedster at the bottom yet the head tube at the top is off of a look??? Poor continuity on materials and brands!0

I'm not particularly heavy 6'2"and 12st 10. Recently took delivery of a lovely new Felt AR4 carbon bike. It's been so windy just lately I have to say I wouldn't have minded an extra stone or two of ballast the last couple of rides! Never noticed cross winds like it before.0

Look, Trek, Scott - do not let the truth get in the way of an urban myth.0

My carbon bike is still fine after hitting god knows how many potholes at 30mph with my 14st bulk slamming it down onto the road. I thought I might have pinch flatted once, but the carbon is withstanding anything I can do to it0

Heh heh, I have absolutely nothing against carbon frames, I have a Look and a Quintana roo.
I just take joy in scaremongering
(By the way, I crashed my Look at 44mph and it is fine. It also has carbon saddle, seatpost, stem, wheels, groupset and handlebars...)
Oh, and I'm currently 92kg...0 -
And what's this about getting water on carbon and it breaking? I've been out on my Focus Cayo in rain, snow and floods of water and nothing's happened...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Headhunter, you must have an aluminium frame masquerading as carbon...0

Nope, full carbon monocoque Focus Cayo. I wash it down with soapy water just about every time I use it so it's been wet on numerous occasions....Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
No chance then, it's definitely aluminium, that or it'll explode when you least expect - look at this cannondale super six that got caught in a rain shower -

Oh jees. Did the rider even survive that? Is that the Merc that hit it?Shazam !!0

Yes, he just dried himself off with a towel, it was quite a bad downpour.
(actually I don't know the cause, I've tried to do some research but have drawn a blank. I hope they are ok! If it turns out otherwise I will delete the post.)0
