I've been over a couple of times to watch. Motorcycle on the ferry from Fishguard, met up with Irish mates from Waterford, picked up more through Dublin, ride on up to the north. All of us riding way too fast and behaving in a shameful manner. Nobody seems too bothered, not even the police, just lads (and one old man - me!) having fun. The Irish, north and south, know how to enjoy themselves. Good company, good beer and motorcycle racing - what's not to like?
The race is complete madness. Standing behind a barbed wire fence for protection as Michael Rutter goes past at 200 mph, just three feet away.
Only downside is it always rains and even when it's dry, and the sun comes out, it's still freezing cold. Great fun, everyone should go aver at least once.0 -
The North West is the biggest sporting event in N. Ireland and probably in Ireland. It is a great event and not only 1 day as many may think. It actually runs for a week with events and displays for everyone.
Saturday is the main event with racing all day long. Great day out. The last few years havent been too bad weather wise I even ended up with sunburn about 3 years ago!! However I would prepare for the worst if you are coming over, just in case
I would give a word of worning to any bikers that may be travelling in N. Ireland over the weekend. The Police will be out in force especially around the roads close to the race circuit and they will stop you if exceeding the speed limit. Unfortunately every year there are numerous deaths around the time of the North West. These happen both on and off the race circuit so Bike Safely and enjoy one of the last remaining road racing circuits0
