hi folks and cheers for looking at my thread.
im in the market for my first decent bike. ive always been happy with £250 ish bikes in the past ( ive had a giant fs gsr alu for about 10 years and enjoyed it) but being a firefighter we are eligible for the cycle scheme so have decided to treat myself.
i do mainly light off road, ie delamere forest trails so feel a £600 budget will get me a hardtail thats way beyond anything ive had before and will be more than good enough to deal with the type of riding i do.
ive narrowed it down to the following two bikes and dont want to increase my budget as this way it allows me money to get all the extras i want to make the whole biking experience better, ie cycle rack, clothing, helmet etc etc
LAPIERRE TECNIC 400 2009

SPECIALIZED ROCKHOPPER DISC 09
http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... ctID=17377
the pros and cons of the two bikes for me are pretty simple
i prefer the looks and rarity of the lapierre but am i right in thinking the front shock is its weak point ? im also a self employed mechanic so will be regularly servicing the bike especailly the front fork to help it last and perform as long and well as possible
however dont forget while the front shock might be a week point its still going to be far far better than anything ive had in the past
any views welcome but please be gentle as its taken me long enough to narrow it down to these two lol
ps im using the cyclestore in congleton as they are only 6 miles from my house

Hi Appy
My brother has the rockhopper ,he thinks its great plus if you look on this site you will find everyone seems to like them .
Personely i like the lapierre ,plus every one as a rockhopper ,id like to be different
but that is my view Wouldnt woorry to much about the forks, dart 3 arnt that good0 -
The rockhopper has the M4 frame, which is excellent, and i woudn't write it off for looks either. While the dart 3s aren't super-amazing, I would have the Rockhopper. The rockhopper is available a little tiny bit cheaper here to due to the 2% vat cut: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... rockhopper
or save your self a wad of cash and get tora forks to boot by getting this (but only if you are a size small!):

im 6 foot lol
ive just rang cycle scheme and have my voucher on hold as i think ive fallen in love with the trek 6500 and cyclestore dont do trek. however swinnerton cycles near me do
decisions decisions decisions !!
i think sometimes you can spend to long looking and should settle on a bike and go for it.0
