I was going to upgrade my bike but on advice here :D thought i would buy a new one. Have been looking into the Boardman's and my initial choice was the lower priced model - The Sport. But MAY be able to stretch to the next one up - The Comp. But in your expert opinions do you think its worth the stretch for the extra spec? which is the better value of the 2?

I would stretch for the comp. There is a massive difference in the fork and you will defiantely notice it, probably worth the extra £150 on its own. However you also get marginally better brakes and drivetrain and tyres, so worth the stretch in my opinion.

    Hi

Ive got the Boardman Sport. Really lovely bike! Got it on the Cycle2Work scheme, but my voucher was only for £550, so couldnt go for the Comp. Sport is fine for the riding I do, really chuffed with it.

Definately worth going for the Comp if you can afford it. better fork, juicy 3 brakes, frame is a bit lighter, sram x7 drivetrain I think. All that combined is definately worth more than the £150 difference in price.

You will be chuffed with either tho mate, depends on what ya can afford.

I bet you would be even more chuffed if you could stretch to £1000... Pro is gorgeous

Make sure they have the bike, make them go through to the stock room and touch it with their own faces. Halfords computer system seem to be vastly flawed.

    On the bike...can't go wrong.

Based on my recent experience the problem ain't stock control or the computers but the young people they employ; who don't seem to have a clue what they are doing or talking about.

"I'd like to look at a Broadman Pro Hard Tail in medium please?" "Sure sir, here we go...", "Err that's a full-susser" "Oh yeah sorry, what was it you wanted?", "Pro Hard Tail in medium", "Oh okay, this is a Team in large I think will that do? oh hang on I can't get it down I can't find the key for the lock"

I resolved this all for myself by hovering near, and taking a good look, at the Van Nicholas until the "specialist" bloke, who is about my age (49) wandered over from fixing someone's Apollo and engaged me in conversation...

He finds me a medium Comp and a large Team to try for size and goes out and checks himself two pro's in stock and plenty more at Head Office and in our shops at x y & z. Even agree's I can have it in the box rather than built and build it myself instore!
