I was meaning to sort out a Newport Velodrome trip.....Need to MTFU and get on the phone!0

Hmm, very tempting as Herne Hill Velodrome is within a nice *gentle* warm-up ride from my house.........I even think I've ridden there before whilst taking part in a London wide school sports competition :-D
Only problem is weekend's are family time, so unless it opens at the crack of dawn and I can be home before 9/10am I'd have to give it a miss - I might be permission for one day a month tho and would really love to try some proper track riding!0 -
Stage 1 Induction 09:00-10:30Adults £4 U18 £2 Free bike hire.
All abilities catered for as long as you can ride a bike!
Please arrive by 8:45 to be ready to start at 9.00.

After the induction its general trainning and some racing. £6
You have to do induction before you can do the race/trainning that starts at 10.30.
They do not let people on the track if its wet as the banking gets slippery so check the weather before travelling down.

Best bet for Westfield is to stay in the Designer Street bit, which is chav-lite territory. At the junction of that and the main concourse your chav-alert warning light should be glowing. The chavometer alarms don't go off unless you continue in the same direction. So best to double back and head outside on to the street. I managed to get the GF out in just over two hoursBike1

I used to cycle at Herne Hill when I was a kid/teenager. I went a few times with the school, but most times I went was with my mates we used to basically hop over the fence and then play "pursuit" against each other on our road bikes or all go together in a line and see how long we could hold it together for, it was a good laugh though I doubt you can hop over the fence anymore. I noticed a couple of years ago that it has been resurfaced, which it sorely needed. I like the way it has been rebranded as a "velodrome", it used to be called Herne Hill Cycle Track.0
