I am thinking about buying my first road bike
My company has a cycle to work scheme with Halfords so I can get it v. cheap
The Carrera Virtuoso (£330) or the Carrera Vanquish (at £500) look good first bike options
However I am a bit worried about the frame size – the largest frame size is 54cm
I am 6’ 2” will this be big enough?

Or should I just go for broke at get the XL ‘Basic’ Boardman (£650)

Any advice…

The 54 will be too small - could you get it from another branch?
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

The 54cm is the largest that they do (according to the Halfords website)
I don't know if they are measuring it in the 'normal' way
Anyone have any first hand experience - thanks

They're compact, so seat tube length won't help you. You'd need to go in and sit on one, so to speak.

I'm 6'3" and bought a Carrera Virtuoso, size Large (I didn't bother measuring it), in January this year. It just fits me and no more. I have the seat tube at its max, the limit lines are just visible above the seat clamp. The seat tube supplied seems quite long but maybe a longer one could be substituted.
The reach is certainly shorter than my other bikes so I'm a bit more upright, but it's quite comfortable and over all I'm very pleased with it. I've been using it regularly to commute on while I strip down and upgrade my usual commuter after a hard winter of abuse.

  • What about this bike?, i have seen it at my LBS and is stunning vgood looking bike. Also the sizes go up to 62cm so easily big enough.

Also i have found it for £550 rather than £575

I picked up my Trek 1.2c for £550 last Friday. It's my first road bike and it's superb, I'm flying up hills compared to the slogs I was enduring on my Giant hybrid. I'm 6ft and got the 56 frame. On the cyclescheme with extras making the total purchase £640 the salary sacrafice is a mere £35 a month.

The £550 model has 2 front rings and the £575 is a triple.
