Orange Crush vs Specialized Pitch Comp ?

Hi all,

I had my heart set on the Orange Crush but I just can find one anywhere, Orange have told me they're not making any more but the 2010 model will be out september/october this year. I've called dozens of shops and nobody has one, apparently Orange sold out in March.

So now I'm looking at other options. I want a long travel trail bike that can handle a beating, something I can tear round corners on a jump over/off logs etc, something that's fun to ride that I can throw around a bit. But it also needs to be half decent up hills and general xc riding. I have a charge duster I'll use for most of the general xc and longer distance stuff I do.

So that brings me to the Specialized Pitch Comp, which has been review very well and has a pretty good spec for the money. I also like the idea of full suss since I've already got a hardtail.

Would you say this is a good alternative to the Orange Crush? Is it worth waiting for the 2010 Crush? Or even the 2010 Pitch?

I'm going to test ride a Pitch this weekend hopefully.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Russ

go for the Pitch Comp. alot of thing can change for the 2010 model, like price and spec.

or you can wait until then to pick up a 2009 model on discount.

i think it will be highly unlikely that there will be any 2009 Pitch's left by the time the 2010 range is rolled out. It's tricky enough to hunt down the right size now.

I was going to say that I have a Pitch Comp, but actually I have a Pitch frame, since I've upgraded every single part of the bike.

However, that said, for £978, you get A LOT of bike for your money. If you are looking to buy a solid all round performer that will be a good base to upgrade on in future, then you can't really go wrong with the Pitch.

It's an extremely fun and adaptable bike that will take a lot of stick. It's very easy to get on with and is probably the most confidence inspiring ride I've had.

If you are looking for something that feels like a true "all mountain" bike, ie you can chuck it everywhere, then it certainly lives up to it's label.

Get one. I doubt there are many people that wanted a burly, all mountain bike for that kind of cash and ended up buying a Pitch that are disappointed!

I've got a Pitch Comp and love it! As said above, good base for future upgrades and looks great in blue. Try and test ride one, ,mines a medium and I am 5'11", its a bigger bike than the specs/geometry sugest. But do try it out.

  • Thanks for the advice/info fellas. I've booked a test ride on what seems to be the last Pitch Comp in my area! It's a medium. I'll report back when I've ridden it :)

    Cheers

  • I test rode a medium and a large pitch comp today... There's no doubt that I need the large, the medium was just way too cramped in the cockpit, I was almost sat upright! The large felt perfect.

What a bike for the money! Feels amazing. Just gotta get the money sorted and it's mine, hopefully within two weeks!

    Cheers guys.
