Got knocked over by an MPV style mini-cab this morning at the mini roundabout entrance to Greenwich Park (Blackheath side). Fortunately it was a very slow collision and I just bounced off the car bonnet. All I ended up with a scratchy knee and a bruised hip.

There were also something like 5 police officers there who saw the whole incident as there seems to be a permanent police presence at that entrance in the monings :D

I think the bike is ok apart from a smashed computer and front light but I've taken it to the LBS for a checkup and the police made sure we all took each others details down (and incident report number).

One of the officers asked the driver who had priority at the roundabout (I did as I was coming in on the right) and he didn't know...hmm wrong answer methinks!!! He already had points on his license too...

Good that the coppers were there. Gotta say the MPV mini cabs - typically balck Ford Galaxy's, VW Sharan's are typically the worst driven vehicles in London. Whenever I see this

Yup, its uncanny the amount of times bad driving is accompanied by that sticker!

Again, glad to hear you're ok. Just hoping the bike is too...

Same out in the sticks - I got rear ended by a minicab who was behind me at a set of lights - I was going straight on and he was going left and couldn't wait for me to clear the turn - no damage but I did get a bit irate

+1. Invariably driven by someone busy checking his Sat Nav / Mobile / English-Albanian dictionary. Or all three at once.

Closely followed by Private Hire E Class Mercs, one of which I had to give a very hard stare to yesterday to get him out of my bike lane.

    +another 1!

Especially the VW Sharans - car of choice for Addison Lee, whose drivers seem to have limited knowledge of both English and the Highway code!

I think I qualify for that one.

A while back I had an incident with an Italian on a scooter who didnt know the one way system through Camden and hadnt realised straight ahead was one way.

I ended up by coming off of my bike by it bouncing through my legs and landing in a heap in front of me and me landing both feet on the road !

A few choice words to the guy who was upset that I had dissed him .

No damage to me or bike but one bruised ego to said scooter operator.

    Brushed,

you see when you started to tell us about a good crash with an Italian on a scooter, I just got this image <whistful gaze into space> of your fall being broken by one of the very cool and very cute Italian girls that you see riding around Rome on scooters </whistful gaze into space>. Imagine my disappointment that it was only a story about your improbable gymnastics... ah well

Glad there's no dammage by sound of it.

Just as black cabbies (some of them. ok a few of them) are finally starting to get some awareness of other road users there is a new group to educate. Those private hires should be limited to night jobs only. That's completely selfish of course as it's the only time I use em.

They should at least be made to complete an advanced driving test, especially those who drive in London all day.

Those euro cab type people carriers are designed to cause pedestrians and those on two wheels
the least amount of injury in a collision. I always thought that the EU had set out strict rules on car and van design for crashing into people, but to me this seems to have gone astray when you see some of the 4X4's on the roads these days, to me they look like tanks, very scary when your on a bike.

Yes, unfortunately the EU forgot to take the driver into account ;)

Yep from now on I'm going to assume that all drivers know not what they do
Even if it means holding up traffic and annoying them.

Crikey man!! Glad you're not seriously hurt, make sure you go see a doc just to be sure, obviously.

So was this guy cautioned on the spot, or do you have to fill in a collision form from the Police?

Speaking of private hire... we have the same situation here in southampton with them. Theres one firm who's phone number is actually the number of the beast, LMAO!! They have a terrible rep for speeding and general customer service.

Now the licensing board here have had enough and are trying to force the drivers to take GNVQs and prove their ability to speak understandable english. The taxi drivers arent taking it well.

I thought that's why they used crash test dummies. :)

    Mini Cab drivers: Insane!

I won't use one now with my family, speeding through streets at 60-70mph, waaayyy over the 30mph speed limit, just to get somewhere quicker has convinced me there are safer ways to get from A to B.

You have to be really careful on roundabouts in London. I know the exact one you mean, I cross over that way sometimes myself. The number of drivers who seem to have no clue about right of way at roundabouts is scary, perhaps it's got something to do with the fact that there are a lot of non-UK drivers in London and roundabouts are less common overseas. I have been in near misses with cars literally cutting across in front of me as I pass round or cars waiting for me to pull out, treating a 3 way roundabout like a T junction when they clearly have right of way. It's usually seems to be mini roundabouts that are the problem. It's astounding that these people are allowed to drive!
