Have you considered having a look / doing a search in Tour and Expedition? There's quite a bit about France in there.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0

Highly recommended, and the scenery in summer is something else.0 -
France is a big country and has many different terrains. If you could give an indication of what type of cycling you would like to do and your abilities then you could be better advised. For instance flat, hilly or mountainous, travelling light or loaded with camping gear. The more pointers you can give the better the advice you will get back. Also you might like to look and post in the Touring section as France is a popular destination for cycling rather than posting in the commuting section. I don't think anyone commutes by bicycle to or from France, but as always I might not be right. There is always one.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.

Had a holiday in a sleepy French village called Guitalens back in 2003, its about 45 minutes drive from Carcassonne airport. While being taxied from the airport, I was amazed by the quailty of some of the roads, they were as smooth as butter and put many UK roads to shame.
Apparently there was good reason for this, the driver said, as roads used for Tour de France stages are kept in very good condition for the cyclists.================
