Mavic Ksyrium Elite - Campy to Shimano

Hi all.

I'm looking to buy a pair of ksyrium elites, the rear wheel of which at the moment has a campagnolo cassette on. My question is what is required and how much will it cost to convert it to being compatible with a shimano cassette?
Is it just a case of replacing the freehub body with a shimano one?

Also if anyone has any experience/views on the ksyrium elites I'd be interested to hear about them.

Cheers

    The wheel has a FTS-L hub, so it'll take either a Campag-fit ED10 freehub body or a Shimano-fit M10 freehub body.

If it currently has a Campag cassette, it's probably got ED10, so you'll need a M10 instead
Google 'Mavic M10 freehub' and see what you find
    http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=A9911
    http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/copy_ ... eehub.html
    etc

(you can also find them on eBay occasionally - or you might have to buy a M10 yourself and can then stick your ED10 onto eBay for someone wanting to go the other way...)

    However, a M10 isn't actually Shimano : it's a Shimano-splined Mavic freehub.
Mavic make a Shimano-splined-but-Campag-spaced cassette which you can fit to it
    - so the other possibility is that the wheel currently already has M10 freehub body but this Mavic cassette (this is rather less likely than it having a ED10 though, I'd guess).

    If it is a M10, or you've replaced the ED10 with a M10, then it's still a Mavic freehub
    - to fit a Shimano cassette to it you also need a Mavic spacer
    - if you buy a new Ksyrium M10 wheel, one will come with it, but I don't know if it does with a M10 freehub body only.
If not, you can buy one from e.g. CRC
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=25399
*ignore CR's description of this item !*
"This handy cassette spacer allows you to use 10 speed cassette on 8/9 speed cassette body."
    - that's not true : assuming that their item title "Mavic Cassette Spacer" is correct, and it's the spacer in the picture, this is the spacer you need to run a Shimano or SRAM cassette on a Mavic M10 hub, nothing to do with 10sp to 8/9sp.
(i.e. it's not the Shimano 10sp spacer you were asking about on your other thread yesterday)
    <edit - no it wasn't you, it was someone called woody.som : confusing !

You don't say if you are wanting to run 8, 9 or 10sp Shimano on this wheel
If 8 or 9sp, you can then simply fit the cassette with the Mavic spacer
If 10sp, there's also that thinner (1mm) spacer from Shimano which should come with a 10sp cassette (as per woddy.com's thread above), so you need that plus the Mavic spacer.

I have some 2007 Ksyrium Elites and I've been pretty impressed with them.
Maybe Ksyriums aren't the default choice of wheel they were 5 years ago, there are now other manufacturers also making decent wheels at similar prices and sometimes a bit lighter too
But I think this affects the top-end mega-expensive Ksyriums more than the Elites - they're a pretty safe bet, decent quality/performance/weight for the money and supposed to be pretty bombproof
(having said that, whilst my wheels have been fine, we hired bikes in Italy a couple of weeks ago and my wife had a spoke break on her 2009 Ksyrium Elites : she weighs 9st and rides very gently, should put far less stress on wheels than me - but on the other hand it was a hire bike, 2009 Scott CR1, and who knows who'd been riding it before her and what they'd done with it...)

To save another thread, I though I'd add to this.

I have a Bianchi with a Campagnolo groupset. It has a 10sp cassette on Campagnolo freehub on a 2012 Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheelset.

Yesterday I bought a Focus Cayo Evo 4.0 with Shimano Ultegra and a 10sp cassette. I'd like to put the Mavics on the Focus.

My local bike shop said they'd swap it over if I supply the parts as they are not a Mavic dealer.

Do I just need to the buy the M10 freewheel e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mavi ... tAodKCIAUg or are other parts required?
