Black stem / silver handlebars...

Good idea or not?

I can't quite decide what this would look like. It'd be a PRO PLT stem in black with PRO PLT bars in silver. Graphics on the stem are silver / white and black / white on the bars. I was also going to go for black bar tape, leaving just a touch of silver showing either side of the stem and in between the two bar clamps.

I can't decide though, will this look a little different and add a touch of colour, without being OTT, or should I just stick with the more stealthy black / black combo.

I need the advice of Cake Stop to help me decide.

what's the rest of the finishing kits colour. Are the wheels black or silver? What Colour is the bartape?

Personally I'd go black / black unless you could get some siler handlebar tape - (can you get silver tape?)

I went with black PRO PLT bars and stem along with some black carbon look bar tape much to the digust of my mate who fitted it. Depends a lot on what colour the frame is. All black seems to be standard for a silver frame but it does make the bike look a bit like it came from Argos.

The frame's plain, lacquered carbon, with the graphics being pretty much all white. I figure black stem, bars and tape is too black, but reckon silver bar tape (Fizik do some) might look a bit cheapo, hence my idea to put a subtle bit of another colour in to break things up.

On Bike Radar's tech page today Ivan Basso's Giro bike had a silver stem and black bars, and the combination didn't look bad.

Oh, and being a cheapskate, you can get the PRO PLT bars in silver for less than half the price they can be had in black - although I've already got a pair in black, and the stem.

So - Do I spend fifteen quid on the bars (from Petra Cycles), and put on the black bar tape I've already got, or spend twelve quid on some silver bar tape? The first option to me seems like I'll be getting more for my money...
