Does anyone commute South Ealing / Acton to the City?

I am contemplating a house move and just wondered how long it takes, any thoughts on routes etc. Currently I do Maida Vale - Cannon St, I think the mileage would approx double so shouldn't be a massive issue though I might have to move back to gears from the fixie

cheers

Christophe does and uses the Touche, I think.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

I go from South Ealing to Kensington daily, and sometimes to the city (Liverpool Street area). Depending on route and time of day, the trip time varies - I'd always allow 50 minutes for punctuality, and not been late yet, but I'm generally travelling outside rush hour.

And when I do it I do it on a FG - no need for gears!

As CJ says, Christophe is your guy.

Yes, its all pretty straightforward really - I'm actually a bit further north, but I often come back that way. Lots of route options, and no need for gears. Scoot up to Acton and the Uxbridge Road to Shepherds Bush then either head down to Earls Court and on to the fabled Embankment, or Notting Hill, Ken Gardens, Hyde Park, Buck House, Traf Sq, Strand, Aldwych, Fleet St, St Pauls and Cannon St , or pehaps via Bollo Lane, Chiswick, Hammersmith, Fulham Broadway, Chelsea Harbour etc to HoP and then off before the Balckfriars underpass. The world's your Oyster. :) Probably about 12 miles or so for your trip. My trip is about 14 or 15 miles each way and takes 50 minutes average coming in and an hour going home. Its a very nice commute - you'll enjoy it. :)

I'm Acton to the city, around 9 miles and it takes just over 30 mins (and thats a non-RLJ time, before you ask).
My route is Uxbridge road, Notting Hill, through Hyde Park, down the mall, Trafalgar Sq, Embankment then City.
I love that route, lots to see and some chances to pedal quickly if you want to (I'm a roadie)

I see loads of fixies doing this route.

I'm at Ealing Common and average 45 minutes on the town bound and just under an hour for the return - but take a longer route via The Goldhawk Road and Bedford Park to get home as it avoids the chaos of the Uxbridge Riad.

Goldhawk Road to Camberwell here, no problem on a fixie or a SS

I go from Culmington Rd. (W13 9NR) to Charlotte Rd. in Shoreditch (EC2A 3QT); it takes about an hour each way using the TfL suggested cycle route via Uxbridge Rd., Notting Hill, Kensington, Paddington, Marylebone, Tavistock, Barbican, Shoreditch. Am not sure how other people in this thread do similar routes so much quicker - there's so many lights! About 12 miles, according to Google maps. YMMV :)

Thanks everyone, maybe the fixie can stay, it can only help my fitness.

I've been doing West London to the City and back for years, love it, most times it's too short, even when I go the long way.

Lots of ways to go, along Uxbridge road, drop down through hyde park.

Drop down to embankment through earls court.

For the straightest route go straight through Oxford Street.

Or go up across Paddington and over Islington and down into City Road.

Or on the canal from Park Royal all the way round to Hackney and down through Brick Lane (reverse route highly recommend for long lazy trips home on sunny evenings).

Or down past Richmond, up into Richmond Park at Ham gate, out through sheen gate across to Putney up into Kings Road and onwards.

Or, follow the river ALL the way home (never done it in).

All easy (ish) on a fixie I'd imagine.

Sounds like we've the numbers for another Friday Evening Peloton from town down to The Grange Public House :)
