Recently I've been riding along and after having changed down into the smaller cogs (rear) and it doesn't go all the way down into the gear its meant to. Then most of the time while I'm standing  it changes into the smaller gear I changed into earlier causing me to slip and cut my leg on the front rings. It's beginning to get really annoying and painful  Trying to think what is causing it but I have pretty much no clue, the derailieur just decides that it wants to change gear whenever...

Also, I think this may be down to stiff links but on the small front ring, only occasionally, the chain gets stuck and starts to go around again. Causing the cranks to lock up and make me back pedal to get the chain off.
If it is because of stiff links, how do I get rid of them????

Sorry for the essay but its really bugging me,
Thanks for any help

I would start by setting up the gearing again from scratch, including limit screws, reclamping the cable in the derailleur, and then adjust the tension using barrel adjusters to get the indexing correct. Look on park tools for how to do this, it's fairly straight forward.

If that doesn't fix it, it could be dirty cables (replace them) or worn out parts (chain/cassette etc) which you'll need to replace.

check for mucky sticking cables. then sort out the indexing.
