Hi i'm new to this mountain biking lark.

Recently inherited (from my pops) a Trek 3900 which i've been riding on the moors and to work (15 miles on mostly flat canal tow path) and am wanting something a little better.

i want to start doing Dalby as well forest so ideally the bike needs to fit my all my needs.

ideally i'd like a full sus bike but one that can travel fairly well. i know the budget is a limiting factor but can pay over the amounts stated.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

J

Stick with a hartail and look to spend the upper end ogf your budget.Even then its getting to find bikes, this year with properly ,decent forks due to the recent price rises.
Have a look at the what hadtai thread, which is stickied above.

I'm sure people will suggest a hardtail for that money, but if you're really set on a FS then you could do a lot worse than the Boardman Comp

Yep the Boardman FS Comp has moved the minimum you have to pay for a quality full susser from £1k to £800.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

+1 for the hardtail, especially if it's being used as a commuting bike as well. It'll help improve your handling skills also, before you move on to a full-susser at a later stage should you decide to.
