Hi,

Just got back into mtb, i have a 2001 marin palisade trail which is truly knackered now. I have around £500 to spend on a new bike and have found a giant xt3 3.5 (2007) for £440 which looks like a great deal, or is there anything else i should be looking at? The only problem is i am 6ft and the frame is 19.5inch, not sure if this is too large?

I will be riding mainly singletrack, nothing serious, i just want something i can thrash around my local forest and be able to take the odd 3 foot drop.

all suggestions very much appreciated :-)

I generally ride a medium bike, 17.5"-18" and im 6foot1, but i have long legs and a short body so i find a smaller bike more comfortable(also way easier to chuck about) you have to ride the bike and try,

Had a 19" orange crush a few years back, way way too big, back kept trying to kick me over the bars

thanks for getting back to me :-) i have read that someone who is 5ft 10inch found the 19.5in frame the prefect size, confusing stuff! i guess it depends on your ride style and the bike manufacturer.

    How knackered is it?

If the shifters and mechs are still working then you'll be better off bringing it up to date, £500 would buy you some decent forks and wheels as well as a new set of chainrings, a new chain and cassette.

With a bit of shopping you could probably do the shifters and mechs as well.

pretty gone, it keeps jumping out of gear and it looks a total mess, pretty sure nearly everything would have to be upgraded.
