Has anyone got any experience of using the dartford crossing with a bike

I drive from Maidstone to Essex, 35miles every day (and back). I am thinking a couple of days a week I could leave car at work, ride home, sleep and ride back next day (or get a lift :D )

Does anyone travel this way ? I think crossing patrol will put the bike in a van and drive you across, but im not sure

Should I head towards London and come down the A20 ?

The answer's buried here. Looks like it may add some time to your journey...
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

    Bike 2-A

Could head towards Woolwich foot tunnel and go on from there.

I'd never heard of the Woolwich foot tunnel, just looked it up on web, looks like a great idea.

    Thanks

I did think about riding from Maidstone to Gravesend and then getting Tilbury ferry, but the only way from Tilbury to Purfleet is along the A13 . . . and i dont fancy that !

I've used it a few times, didn't have to wait long for a ride.

Tilbury to Pufleet can be done on quieter roads (through Grays).

I have seen a patrol car stopping a cyclist half-way up the bridge.

Every year I plan to cross the bridge and do the south bank of the Thames to Tower Bridge. Every year, I never seem to have the time or enthusiasm.
