Just out of interest. Me and the wife have always said mom I think everyone does round by me. But it was just noted on another thread that only yanks said mom.

I've added the third option especially for Lit :D

Yep, mom means you watch too much telly, really.

I voted Mum, but when am annoying parents they become Mother Dear and Faither. When being extra annoying, it's Daddio. 8)

Damn it and I chose that one before I read your post! I'm so predictable. It is 'Mother' now though, when I was younger it was Mummy. Never Mum, never Mom.

Reminds me of my first week at University in Manchester. A yorkshire lad was living up to the stereotype and having a go at some home counties lads for being southerners and therefore lacking the integrity and authenticity which comes from being a northerner. A geordie mate of mine asked him where he was from

    "Leeds"

"Leeds?" (with theatrical distain) "Leeds??? That's not North!"

BTW, don't think I've ever met a Brit that used "Mom"! Mam, Mum or Mummy depending on some combination of Northerness and class.

In my 40 years so far, living up and down the country (England, that is), I don't think I've ever encountered anyone I can recall who said "mom". Mum, ma, mam, mother sure, but never mom.

Mind you, I don't think I've ever known anyone to say "mater" in real life. Must be my low social standing. :D

haha. Im originally from sunderland and im guilty of the exact same kind of comments against a lad in my friends student accomodation. He was from manchester and was taking the piss out of some folk from london area for being soft-southerners.

Definately Mam, as does eveyone else round these parts. Anyone out there in the greeting card industry, this is a gap in the market.

I hated having to by mum or mother cards when i was lucky enough to have to buy them. I always wanted one with mam on. Or can you get them now?

If anyone wants to meet any brits that say mom pop to cannock! when I was at school it was what everyone said, the Mrs is from quite a well to do family and she says mom too.

I'm surprised at how few mom's we have so far :(

Didn't you hate it when you younger and would call your school teacher Mum  and all the other kids would laugh....

Urgh!!! I hated that teacher as well!

It is Mum by the way.

Mom is American (possibly Canadian) = Wrong. Mother is too formal and distant as though your Mum refused breast feed and/or hug/cuddle you when you were younger... And what the f*ck is a Mam!?
