How did you find it?

I punctured after an hour and lost what was shaping up to be a good group. I went off hard after the puncture stop to make up time, blew up and had to really dig deep to hang onto a couple of wheels to get home.

Finished with 5:13:34 (incl. 12 mins for puncture), so it's technically Silver, but Gold for actual ride time.

Oh, and my Garmin which I fully charged last night was somehow half empty this morning and shutdown after 70miles, so was riding on feel for the last hour. Shame because there was at least one pretty cool descent in the last 16miles, would've liked to have seen what speed I hit on that.

Yes, I can now say that I did enjoy it, Did the mid route in 3:24 which i think will qualify for the gold. A good course, and it must be something about bikes and technology because my Polar didnt even record anything apart from the start time and finish time, That will teach me to check it after putting on the data tags "doh" .

Really enjoyed the Duncton sportive today. It was my first one ever, and first of many I expect. Some of those hills were so steep I was at a snails pace. Things picked up on the latter half thanks to a gob full of energy gells and PSP

Seemed very well organised; good parking, feed stops, mechanical support, timing, road quality.

Would ride again! Although I reckon they could increase the rider number another hundred or so.

When are the final times going to be published? Theres only a few on the results page at the mo.

Good roads, I agree (apart from that one piece of gravel that wanted to hitch a ride in my rear tyre!). Some of the lanes were great, and after reading comments from others beforehand I did make a conscious effort to take in some of the scenery - a very pleasant distraction from some of those hills..!!!

How much climbing was there, anyone know? My garmin says approx. 1550m, up to the 70mile mark where it gave up, which is already more than the website quote of 1374m.

Was going great until 15 miles to go when I punctured front wheel. Failry smooth change but lost 6/7 minutes with help of my mate who sayed with me. Then 8 miles to go puntured back wheel. Changed tube, got ready to go, pulled off and back tyre still flat. I think a punctured tube had got in the mended tube box. That was last tube so had to find hole and patch it so lost another I guess 12/15 minutes. End result was I missed Gold due to punctures. My mate, who stayed only for my first puncture, did 5.08 so we are claiming a moral Gold!

Other than that it was a good event, excellent route markings and 2 really savage hills as well as many milder ones. Worth the 2 hour drive.

Off to the Midland Monster next Sunday

That is pretty unlucky, XR! I was cursing after just 1!

Its the taking part that counts Jaeger. I'm pretty darn pleased with my gold though, considering all the mechanical probs I went through, Inc a broken chain.

So your time isn't based solely upon ride time (in motion)?

Do feed stops count in your time as well?

Total time is from start to finish. There is no concession for feed stops or whatever.

Eek! :o I am doing my first sportive on 7th June (Reigate), and was counting on feed stops not counting against my time to try and get a silver.

I dId the Burgess hill sportive earlier on this year, and the timing chips were attached to the rider rather than the bike, and we were clocked in and out of the feed stops.
So I suppose it depends on the events.
