Just wanting to know anyones experiences in using the Mavic XM 819 rim for XC or Enduro/Marathon riding. I am looking to purchase this rim with Hope Pro II hubs from Chain Reaction Cycles.

If not the 819 rims can anybody recommend another rim.

i used the 819 on pro 2 hubs and i like them, very solid and works out similar weight to using something like an xc717 if you are intending to run tubeless as the rim strips weigh about 50 g

the 819 is a wider rim too so supports tyres better.

mine weighted in at 1900g using dt db spokes

XM819's are great rims ! I run them with Hope Pro II & DT DB spokes and run tubeless with/without sealant depending on tyres. As my riding is more AM than XC, I get them re-tensioned every 6 months by my LBS as a precautionary measure, but other than that, some simple DIY servicing has keep them solid for over 2 years.

So, good choice in my opinion !

Really nice rims, don't use them for DH though, I saw one used by someone for DH and he destroyed it!!!!!!! Split at the wield and loads of flat spots...

However for sensible riding they are excellent, stronger and lighter than 719.

If your on a tight budget then EN321's (disc only) might be worth a look as well, especially if your gonna be running 2.3 tyres or above. They weigh 570 grams and are pretty strong.

Another one to look at are the xm719's (Disc and V) they weigh around 470grams.

I bought my 321's about two years ago from ChainReaction. They have stayed true and have not required any adjustment unlike the pair of xm719's that I bought from Merlin.

The last two figures of the rim model refer to the internal width of the rim. So 321's have an internal width of 21mm 819's have an internall width of 19mm.

I dont think you can go to far wrong with Mavic rims whatever the model although for Trail riding I wouldn't go for anything less than 19 mm internal.
