1930's lightweight parts,wheels etc
Interested in building a 30's frame with real light parts, what makes of rims were around then?,what were the lightest steel cranks?who made steel cotterless in the 30's?
Is it OK to built sturmey's on radial spokes,I guess alloy 30's hubs are now to fragile for radial spokes?

Stronglight were making the 49D in the 30's, they were listed by Constrictor apart from that there weren't many if any cotterless cranks, in the 30's cyclists preferred the narrower tread of cottered cranks and only Al alloy cranks needed to be cotterless.B.S.A. deeply fluted and Chater-Lea were lighter than the usual Williams 34s. In the 30s a really light bike presumably for track or TTs would probably have used Constrictor (relabeled Kundtz) wooden (maple or slightly cheaper beech) rims, Constrictor did list light alloy rims but they must be very rare now.0

You could use :
Roman alloy rims, (like westwood, but with twin spoke ridges instead to one as in a westwood rim.
Dunlop special lightweight rims are always nice.
Alloy shell sturmey, but these are more 50's.0 -
Still required Rear sturmey wheel and period 24" frame or why?0

Lots of useful in formation, particularly history and components here:

Wood rims were very popular in the 1930s, as much lighter than steel and suitable for bad/bumpy roads.
Ghisallo wood rims are on sale even in the UK, amazing stuff, but not cheap at £ 110 each. If you have the budget, go for them, they are absolutely beautiful and stronger than you thinkleft the forum March 20230 -
