Rear Maxles - are they available?

I'm just wondering if REAR maxles are available yet, or if any manufacturer is developing them...? I use Hope QR's at the moment, but I'm just curious as to whether rear Maxles are in the pipeline...

If they are, I might include them into my next custom build machine.

By the way, is there much advantage in having maxles on the rear, as they will still not be very easy to remove....?

yes many bike makers offer them as an option.

Massive difference in my opinion. Also dead easy to remove, perhaps 5 seconds longer than a standard QR.

nick, thanks. Although I notice that many 2009 bikes are still not including them in their standard specs, while front maxles frequently are of course. I guess that rear maxles are still quite a luxury option.

Silly question, but are rear maxles actually any more reliable (in terms of locking power) than qr's?

    KK.

the difference between a maxle and QR is stiffness. a maxled back end will be much stiffer than QR.

For a rear maxle conversion you'll need :

A bike frame with swappable rear dropouts ( Marin Quad , Scott Ransom, commencal meta etc)

The Hope thru Axle adaptor (i'm assuming yours are pro 2 hubs )

and of course the Maxle kit

Thats what I did when i converted my Ransom to it cost me at least £350 if i remember it correctly

I paid an extra £100 for the maxled swingarm on my 5. It's not a cheap option. I tried a Turner 5 spot a few weeks ago. It didn't have a rear Maxle . It was a lot more flexy. Dunno how much of that's due to the Maxle though. 5s are stiff frames anyway.
