Bikes on a plane

Just a heads up if you are flying out of the US.
TSA just smashed both my key locks and the combination lock on my bike box so that they could inspect the contents. As if X-raying it isn't enough!
So If you don't want your box ruined, don't lock it.
Disclaimer on the note they left inside and on the TSA website states that the TSA is not responsible for broken locks.

Clearly it was too much hassle to ask for the keys.
Doesn't look like you'll be able to make a claim either.0 -
NEVER EVER lock any luggage when travelling to or from the USA. It has been widely publicised that they will get into your luggage one way or another to inspect it.0

Is Samuel L Jackson in it?0

This policy has been in force since 9/11. You can buy special locks that Customs can open using a specific key. I haven't had a problem in Europe where sense still prevails. Customs can't ask you for the keys since the inspection is done in the Customs area. Incidentally, someone I was on oliday with recently told me that Delta wanted $300 each way for bike carriage to/from Europe!M.Rushton0

Typical - we're paying the price for their lax security that helped 9/11 happen.
I'll stick to Europe with my bike thanks.0
