Hi there
new member and loving it!
I've just bought a new bike, upgraded groupset and saddle (numb areas etc) and now want to look to wheels and tyres. I cant afford wheels at the mo, but can anyobe suggest the best road tyres - 700x23 - around the £20 mark?
cheers

For racing and fast club rides most people go for Michelin Pro Race 3 it seemsDo not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
i found the reviews on here very useful for tires.0

Pro Race 3 are a v nice tyre, but don't offer much resistance to sharp pointy objects in the road, like stones, flints, sleeping butterflies, gusts of wind etc.0
-
Yes, Pro Race 3s are for racing really, not your average commute through broken glass, gravel and assorted detritus in the cityDo not write below this line. Office use only.0

if choosing the michelin krylion carbon tyres, hope you have insanely strong thumbs because michelin tyres seem to be difficult to get on. tho still i do love the grip in the wet and long life durability.0 -
Well I will disagree with the above and say that I find the Pro3 race very good for anything other very sharp material on the road and that doesn't include stones (gravel). My only problem has been riding straight through broken glass. I've ridden plenty of crap roads round my part of the country and not a problem from gravel however that is only my experience. Clearly others have had worse experiences than me. I guess what you can say from that is that I really like my Pro3 race tyres. The best tyres I've found yet in a corner though haven't tried some of the other suggestions.0

I've just bought a pair of Continental GP4000S tyres on ebay which came complete with Vittoria Ultralight inners for £50 in P&P. Not far off your budget and I went with those following numerous recommendations on here.

+1 for Conti 4000S.
Granted I did replace the very ordinary Kenda stock tyres on my Giant SCR2 with them, but the difference it has made to handling, ride quality and performance, not to mention the looks is amazing. Worth every penny extra over your budget.Specialized Venge S Works
Cannondale Synapse
Enigma Etape
Genesis Flyer Single Speed

Continental 4000s are great, spend a bit more and save in the long run, they are that good.0

Pro Race 3, seriously grippy fast rubber. Not had any punctures yet and the roads here are made of glass...
Sidenote:
They've just redone some of the roads and they are so smooth and insanely fast and comfy to ride. Why don't they make all the roads like this?0 -
What are the advantages/disadvantages of folding tyres vs beaded tyres?0
-
Mainly weight...
I've just replaced my Conti GP 4000 tyres on my winter bike with Vittoria Open Pave CX tyres.
Oh my. They are like riding on rubber grippy clouds of loveliness0 -
Also you can carry the folding one easily so for the paranoid a good job.0
-
you can carry wired pretty easily too, you can fold them up pretty small (although not as flat as folding)
weight is the biggie.0 -
So what is the advantage of wire beaded tyres?
I was thinking about replacing my bog-standards with Continental GP4000 - would you say these are good all-round road tyres, i.e., good combination of speed, puncture protection, durability and grip - not just for racers? What is the difference between GP4000 and GP4000S?
Cheers0 -
Dunno what the difference is (if there is any) but I can vouch for the GP 4000s. I've had a pair on for 2 years now - and never had a P********.
Also they did come top in a tecchy german bike mag review of tyres - that was about 2 or 3 years back.0 -
I'm happy with Vittoria Rubinos
They're within your buget tooRichard
