gear shift problem...

Hi guys, i've got a problem with the gears on my Mongoose: you generally have to change up two gears at a time before it clicks into place. The previous owner (a friend of mine) says it was the deraileur (can't spell that word!) and that he's adjusted it, but the problem still occurs.

What should I do? Would appreciate any advice and also, i'm not great at fixing bikes to be honest. :oops:

sounds like dirty sticky cables.

Lube/replace.
