Please don't get me started. I have this (yes, pedantic) issue over spelling on signs, hoardings and so on.

Especially with the old 'apostrophe s' issue.

Apologies to any local shopkeeper in Brighton to whom I've pointed out the error of their ways! :D
Ned Flanders: “You were bicycling two abreast?”
Homer Simpson: “I wish. We were bicycling to a lake.”

I too am bothered by this recent plague of illiteracy. Why can't people take a few extra seconds to write / spell something properly?

Texting has been the death of our language, innit?

I know that there are a portion of people who suffer with conditions such as dyslexia (my OH being one of them), which do make it more difficult to spell things correctly - that's clearly not their fault.

I think part of the problem is that we all think we are expected to do things at a hundred miles a minute, and therefore mistakes happen. But also, we do rely too much on 'spell-checkers' which don't always pick up on the grammar.

I once saw a national car advertisement on one of those big hoardings - and yes, the 'apostrophe s' was just where it shouldn't have been... aaaaggghhh!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, some will argue that this is just the next phase in our language development, seeing as we don't say things like 'verily', 'kind sir' 'forsooth' and so on any more. Maybe we should revert to such flowery language once more and slow the pace of life down a tad (except when giving it some on the old pennyfarthing  )

    Old Ordinary, please...

I used to live next to a family who raced those.

They were the only people who referred to "Safety Bicycles". Barry's titanium "safety bike" made me laugh.

Should that be "error of their way"?

    Discuss.
