How would 2004 5500 Trek Madone OCLV compare to recent one?

Been offered a 2004 bike with not much use and I wondered how it would compare performance and build wise to a 2008 or 2009 bike. Would I be better off going for the newer although more expensive ones? Thanks in advance.

  • There won't be a great deal of difference in performance (not that you'll notice anyway), frame weight probably a few grams heavier than todays one but again you won't notice. Frame will fell different to the modern one simply because it is a different frame, if you can get a bargain on a barely used madone i'd go for it, great bike.

Thanks for that. Do carbon fibre frames break down in time?
