Wheels for a SS

So...
The eminent Greg T told me pre-beer at the pub t'other day that new wheels actually make quite the difference to one's SS.
Now that I have nothing to do to the Maxima any more, my mouse button finger is getting itchy.
Any recommendations for some nice (but not too nice) wheels for the Bowery?
Can you put normal wheels on a SS? I suspect the answer to this is no.

You might be able to get away with 130 OLD wheels if the frame is wide enough, if not you're stuck with anything trackie with 120 OLD.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Record track hubs on Mavic CXP33s built with CX-Rays.0

depends on the width of the rear stays - singlespeeds have narrower axle widths, but if the bowery takes a wider axle then you could get something like fulcrums and fit a single speed converter kit...
but you could go way better than that  how about some nice track hubs and get someone to build them with the rims of your choice
planet X do some nice clincher track wheels....
look at the miche x-press track/road on wiggle..."I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

Halo Aerorage are just the ticket. And they come in white. And mauve.

Oooh - very, very tempted to pick up a white pair for my own Bowery... I'm assuming that white is faster than black is faster than yellow is faster than purple. Right? ;-P

Depends on width between the track fork ends - will be either 120mm or 130mm.
If it is 130mm - you can buy spacers to space out 120mm track wheels to 130mm

I have these - surprisingly light, very strong and very deep, funky looking rim...they are fixed/SS hubs - you will need a BMX freewheel for the SS side.

I will probably go with the Formula/Xero ones again for my Fixed TT bike.0 -
Halo Aeroage... but I have a spare pair of wheels you can take off my hands. They're black Formulas as linked to by GTV. I've removed the rim stickers though. They came with my Pearson and are perfectly good.

+1 to removing the stickers!
I looked at Aerorage and the Charge Dish wheels - All pretty good really. Only went for the Formula/Xero as the rim was the deepest - I am TART: Hear my feminine giggle!
I did not realise that Pearson fitted the Xero rims?! I thought they were factory builds?0 -

The white ones are the fastest If you go for the yellow ones you can be seen from 2 miles away, but get some Mavic shoes to go with them - the same as LiTs. Purple ones are nice but really would be too difficult to co-ordinate with anything.Bike1

Yes, you can have one specced with Halos, which is what I did. I rode one with the standard wheels and they do make a big difference.Bike1

You and Christophe have the same colour bar tape!
Hmmmmm, I see! How are the standard wheels compared to the Halos?
I'm on Alexrims... I reckon anything will be an improvement.... and I do quite like the yellow. Are they reflective?0 -

Not reflective but the white stands out I think.

I had a SS wheel built for my fixed project a while back. I happen to live not too far from Harry Rowland, a well known wheel builder, and he put together a decent wheel for £65 all in. I'm sure you could customise with your favourite colour spokes and rims to have a truly unique wheel!No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!0
