Oh yeah..... forgot Abidal and Alves would be out. Looks like Pique right back (or Puyol) and Silviho left back. Still not a bad defence. Not as good as Man Utd's, but would stand up well in the Premiership. I'd be happy for them to play for Coventry next season if they want a real challenge.0

Marquez is very suspect.
How are Coventry doing?
I knew Ray Ranson when he was just a humble footballer at Bimingham.Smarter than the average bear.0 -
Coventry are a bit rubbish...... low end of mid table in the Championship and about to lose our best players again. Hopefully Chris Coleman will still be there next season.0

It took a while for it to dawn on me but yes I think we came out of it quite well . Owen or Crouch? We have enough history with our own sicknotes to take on Owen and Crouch just wouldnt work. If he did that stupid fecking Robot dance wearing our shirt I would run onto the pitch and beat him to death with his own football boots0 -

Barca didn't deserve to win because they only had one shot?!?! It's a two-legged match! Barca were all over the Chavs in Spain.
True, Chelsea had two penalties that should have been given (the others I'm not so sure about), but then Barca had a player sent off for the crime of being near a player who tripped over his own feet. Drogba might also have been sent off for his persistent cheating. Never has a man been so injured by having air wafted in his face at high speed (in fairness, the same could have been said of the Barca left back in the first leg).
Chavski need to learn that if you get a reputation for cheating, decisions will eventually start to go against you.0 -

Agreed, King fouled Ronaldo in the Carling Cup final. King isnt a cheat Ronaldo is therefore no foul .

I don`t recall too many efforts in the first leg either, and then they complained that Chelsea played defensively!Well, good defending is a part of the game and they weren`t good enough to score. What bothers me is that the referee just seemed determined not to give a penalty, however clear it was.Chelsea or not it was an injustice.Smarter than the average bear.0 -
What penalties? Never heard of ball-to-hand (Pique)? The pushing and shoving on the edge of the box was just that, six-of-one etc...... and as for Drogba's claim, he should have been shown yellow for diving at least. Come on chaps, don't get cought up with the Chelsea/Sky hype. Even the last shout was dubious at best - where do you go with a shot being blasted at you?.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

As much as I can't stand Chelsea I have to agree that one was a penalty. The others were doubtful and Drogba's constant baby tantrums just went against him, as they bloody well should!0

It's overpaid players like Drogba that have put me right off watching ''top level football' in the last year or two. I didn't watch the game cos I knew Drogba would be diving everywhere? Seems I was right watching the replays on the news and what my mates said at work. Hang on even Pique said it was handball didnt he?
As for the last pen shout, if you jump in the air with your hands above your waist and spread them out then it's a penalty. Take it like a man in your face!!!

mate such is life - Hiddink was complaining about the referee but I remember as if it was yesterday when Spain got 2 goals disallowed to S. Korea and then they went to win on penalties.
These were Hiddink words:
But he was unhappy with suggestions that the officials in the match were biased toward his team.
"That is not fair," he said. "Errors are made, by players, by coaches and by referees and linesmen.
"The losing team should look in the mirror, not to external circumstances."
And don't you remember a few years ago when Barcelona played Chelsea and they were Barcelona was losing 3-2 but still going through and then Valdes got held up and Chelsea scored the fourth goal that allowed them to go through. I didn't hear any complains back then or conspiracy theories. That is without forgetting than Barcelona got a few dodgy decisions back home (a penalty and loads of dirty shitty fouls that didn't even incur in yellow cards)
Chelsea deserved to lose, Barcelona were down to 10 men and they were still attacking like if they were 11, even Pique was going upfront to attack. What did Hiddink do for all his mastery? Bring out Belletti.
Hiddink is overrated - OK, he qualified Russia to the semis of the Euros, thanks goodness we stuffed them. I also remember his year at Madrid, a non coach. Bring Capello or Del Bosque any time!x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

There's a good article written by a referee on the Chavski-Barca match:
http://www.football365.co.uk/referee365 ... 04,00.html
He suggests that Chelsea should have had 2 penalties, but also points out that Barca should have had one in the Nou Camp (I'd forgotten about that one).0 -
I`m not a Chelsea fan and I never said anything about a conspiracy.Going back in time to point out all the mistakes refs have made is irrelevant, that decision not to give a pen, by the linesman and ref, was just one of the worst ever.Barca created nothing.Smarter than the average bear.0

You mean they scored a cracker in the last minute.
Never thought I would justify Barcelona but the crying - oh my god - what a bunch of sore losers. As Hiddink said, they should look themselves in the mirror and look for their own errors and stop looking at "external circumstances".x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I'm not sure Pique said that, more like admitting the ball hit his hand - which is totally different. He said there was no intent to gain an advantage which must have been the way the Ref saw it. Therefore no penalty. You would think by the sound of some posts that defenders would be expected to have to run around with their arms by their side to avoid all chance of a penalty, but that aint gonna happen is it? In all honesty I think the Ref in question did very well in sticking to his guns instead of caving in to 39000 fans and 11 players in blue. He said later he may have made mistakes but he hasn't said where - perhaps the sending off? As for his inexperience in mainly reffing in Norway may I remind you of Graham Poll, one of our top refs, gaffe in Germany. And there he is (and others) in the papers giving his opinion on how it all went wrong....hmmmm.
Still, it's all down to opinion but I'm sure if each of us were in the middle that night we'd have bowed to pressure and given in to each penalty claim. It's not a job I'd relish and the hysteria afterwards (death threats FFS) is disgraceful and pathetic.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

The ref made a mistake on that one, end of story. The other appeals may have been debatable but that was,or should have been a clear penalty.Pique would say there was no intent to gain an advantage, wouldn`t he,what matters is he did gain an advantage.Don`t defend the indefensible.Smarter than the average bear.0

Intent to gain an advantage is not the question when giving a penalty for handball..... whether the defender could have gotten their hand/arm out of the way is. He could have. It may not have been a deliberate handball (automatic red card) but there was no deliberate move to get the hand out of the way therefore it is a penalty. It wasn't given which is an error by the officials, but hey, mistakes happen. Drogba and every other player on the pich made mistakes in the game too..... the referee is just as human and so just as liable to err. Footballers forget this, and also forget their own falibility too0

Another ref's view here. Still don't understand how they both don't regard turning your back and raising your arm above your head to block a shot as handball but hey no ref is going to say another ref got it completely wrong.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/chelsea/5292649/Chelsea-v-Barcelona-Referees-verdict.html
Here [John] Deakin assesses the five key decisions that shaped the game:
1) Dani Alves's tackle on Florent Malouda.
Verdict: Penalty. "Obviously it was inside the area, even though the referee gave the offence outside."
2) Eric Abidal's tug on Didier Drogba.
Verdict: Penalty. "Yes, he pulled his shirt."
3) Gerard Pique’s handball.
Verdict: Penalty. “This was probably a penalty because it was hand to ball, so the referee should have given it.”
4) Samuel Eto'o's handball.
Verdict: No penalty. "The one at the end was not a penalty but the reaction that followed was accelerated by the fact that Barcelona had just scored."
5) Abidal's dismissal.
Verdict: No red card. "People forget that incident, but it shouldn't have been a sending off."Pain is only weakness leaving the body0 -
