have been looking on evanscycles and was looking at the trek madone 5.2 frame and the 6.9, and i am sure they are the same frame, if you click on the pictures to make them big and flick between them there is no difference apart from the mech hanger.
Trek Madone 5.2 frame.

A quick look on the Trek site would suggest that all 5 and 6 series Madones use the 'OCLV Carbon frame' so I'd say you are correct, they are the same frame. The reason for the price difference will lie in a different overall spec for other components such as forks, wheels, groupsets et al. Not all that uncommon though, For example the Specialized Roubaix Comp and Elite use the same FACT 7R carbon frame, the difference in price lying in different wheels, seatpost and saddle.0

I would have thought there would be some noticable difference between the two due to different molds etc, and also trek trying to make the frames look different for sales.
And to what gavH said, if you look at the frames some are 'TCT carbon' some are 'OCLV black carbon' and the top ones are 'oclv red carbon.Ribble Gran Fondo

I thought that Contador used to use the 5.2 frame because when they used the same spec on the 6.9 frame it was under the weight limit... ah i have just sorted my doubts actuallyRibble Gran Fondo
