if you want something light then it is definately not the right decision, mind you loads of folk on here love them, i on the other hand hated my 07 model so maybe im wrong :?

maybe light is the wrong word, lighter than my steel 1994 raleigh marauder with 16 gears

genuinely, you might be suprised. the p7 has never been a particularly l ight bike, but it is designed to be bomb proof and for most riders that is the real appeal. i would imagine it is lighter than you old raleigh

my thought process was without all the gears and stuff it'll be lighter and hopefully more comfortable (difficult actually) than the old thing, it should definately be more reliable the raleigh would start to get upset at the slightest bump

haha, well, they are a massively popular bike so they must have something good going on.

to my recollection, i think i am the only person who has ever said anything bad about the p7 but im a fussy and very fickle bugger. i loved it when i first got it cause i thought i should as everyone else does but when i removed my rose tinted glasses, i realised it wasnt for me.

there is a thread here full of folk who love em

tbh it's bound to be better than what I was used to 10+ years ago, no matter how bad it is. I've always wanted an orange which is why I bought it. I imagine I'll ride it to death and then someone will say try this geared light thing and it'll be a revelation. My mates aren't massive bike people so it'll all be cool.

im sure you will love it, its a hugely popular bike. as i said, im the only person who ever didnt like them i reckon!! they always score highly in bike tests in the mags too. i would take the endorsement of po bike testers over mine any day!!

i bet you will be very pleasantly suprised a how far bike technology has come in 10 yrs

I had one of those! Though I had the deluxe version, because I was that cool. P7 seems like a good value buy, and a decent all-rounder, you see some people get back into riding with a huge daft 6" full suss or a 4" XC racer and just think "What if you don't like the one thing that bike does well?" The frames are stupidly expensive seperately but the full builds look good.

    good choice :)

You will love it and the singlespeed aspect adds a whole different side to your riding!

just like the idea of not messing around with gears, they were a pain in the arse compared to the raleigh burner I had before
