Doing the Ventoux Triple Challenge in mid August. What windstopper jacket would be suitable for the 3 decents which is also light enough to carry around for the three climbs and 140k's total riding on the day. Quite like the sound of the Assos Luftshutz, and comments?

+1 for the Gore. A superb piece of cycle apparell. Worth it's weight in cake.

I haven't worn any of the others.

montane featherlite velo gets a good review, packs down small and the windstopper is really quite waterproof too. Well showerproof anyway.

*edit* not nearly so bling tho..........

Yes Kevin, I think you're right, it would be rude not to.

Notice Ribble are now doing the Luftshutz for less than £160. The decision has been made!

Assos, Assos and more Assos!

I've recently bought a Gore ALP-X with zip off sleeves. Got it from Evans, but think GB cycles are doing them still.

Or you could buy 3 x Endura FS260 jetstream windstoppers, or 2 x Endura Windchill (which is also pretty darn waterproof). I've been really happy with my windchill right through winter and into spring

I have a Gore Phantom and it's the best piece of kit in my cycling wardrobe - It's a fantastic piece of kit and has removable arms too. I got about 40% off the price too in a sale - which definitely helps my fondness for it too! I wear the Phantom in all weathers including the middle of winter and mostly only need a longsleeve Merino base layer with it. Good luck with the Ventoux.

+1 for the Aldi cheapo jacket. Packs down as small as a slightly smaller tennis ball, and keeps the wind off nicely. Plus its £13. THIRTEEEEEN QUID.

It really was a toss up between that and the Assos - but I thought the £147 saving would pay for something useful like return flights to the Alps or summat...

Yes but the Aldi one will last a fraction of the time as the Asso, plus at thirteen quid it isn't going to be breatheable, you will boil up like a crisp packet in that thing ....

Wore it yesterday in the rain. Seemed fine to me.

Can any windproof kit be truly breathable - given that even without an outer layer on - I'm getting sweaty.

I also have a Rapha rainjacket (RRP £185 !!!!!) - OK that is nicely made - but I cant tell any difference in the breathability of the two.

Longevity isnt really an issue in a £13 jacket anyway. Most of its time it'll be in a back pocket. (at least this year if the weathermen are correct !)
