Just wondering if carbon seatposts have the strength of alu ones? is there any other drawbacks to carbon posts? other than cost? dunno why but i seem to have it in my head they might be quite brittle? i know little about the charecteristics of carbon though :)

They vary in strength, as do alu ones. More important is carbon posts will snap, whereas alu ones will bend.

also, carbon ones loose their nice finish very quickly if you rise and lower your post alot during a ride.

are carbon seat posts noticeably better at absorbing some of the minor bumps on trails?

oh sorry, much better, it really dampens out tarmac buzz. that said, mine was a specialized post with zertz inserts which are supposed to be the secret.

the post i rode off road didnt do much that i noticed but i think thats because you shift around alot more offroad

Been using my carbon Richey wcs post for about 4 months now. Feels better on tarmac but cant notice any difference on the trails. Done several hundred miles in that time with no issues at all. Good job really as the frame and bars are carbon too

Carbon Ritchey WCS bars and post here, I think they're fantastic, especially on hardpack stuff, really noticed the shock absorbing properties on my hard tail

Must admit, i notice much less buzz through the bars with the Richey's. Used to get numb hands with pins and needles on my old alu bars. As i have a full sus, i guess the seatpost isn't as noticable as on your HT.

my ritchey wcs carbon bar does feel very comfy, mine is the low rise and definately reduces small frequency trail buzz. tis even noticeable over the suspension.

Just fitted Control Tech carbon bars to my Stumpy and they feel great, definately take out some of the buzz but my LBS won't even sell me a carbon seat post as they've seen too many snap!

Go for a Thomson Elite... as light as some carbon posts but stronger
